Thursday, July 23, 2026 – Garden Plot Renumbering Project Complete

 

We have completed the garden plot renumbering project we told you about in June. All of the paint faded and broken markers have been removed and replaced with newly painted white markers.

Each row has now been identified with a letter, then the plot number in that row. For example, plot 58 has now been renumbered to D-10.

When talking about your plot(s), please ensure you use the letter in addition to the number.

The changeover chart emailed to you previously has been reproduced here again for your convenience.

  Two weeks ago, I detailed some of the problems encountered while expanding the garden, like wet snow on the field and frozen ground. We overcame those issues and moved on to Step 2: ·         Remove remaining fence posts ·         Install new garden plot posts ·         Install new driveway gates   The work was proceeding nicely, then Mother Nature decided to humble us once again, by stirring up a spring squall.     We have had several reports that deer have been feasting in the garden at night. While annoying to be sure, it is a fact of nature that we just have to deal with pest control of one kind or another. Here are some ideas that you can use to help keep the deer from snacking on your treasured plants… Choose Deer-Resistant Plants While hungry deer may eat just about anything, they tend to avoid prickly and fuzzy foliage . And, they don’t really like heavily fragranced plants, either. Experiment with different textured and aromatic plants. Try using them as borders for your garden beds.     Place Bar Soap Near Plants To keep deer away, many gardeners turn to ordinary bar soap .
